Research & Planning: Contents page Analysis
This image is the contents page of a pop magazine called top of the pops.
I think this because of the use of pink, pink is a very female colour and it is used quite a lot on this page. All of the numbers of the pages are in pink and then also the background of the masthead is pink, because this colour is on a white background it really stands out, it is eye catching so I think this will attract the eye of mostly females. I think the age is for teenagers. I think this because of the things that are said to be in the magazine, it comes across slightly childish something that teenage girls would enjoy. So I believe that the target audience for this magazine contents page is female teenagers.
The layout of this page is simple, the way you would expect. The masthead is at the top, the main information in the middle, and one main image, with other images. A medium sized one in the bottom right corner and a couple of smaller images plotted around the page filling gaps and also to make it look more interesting and not like it is all text.
I think the main image which is of a young boy band comes across bubbly and positive because of the way they are smiling with their arms around each other looking like they are having a good time. This works with the meaning of pop music, pop is supposed to be bubbly and to make people sing along and be cheerful. The small image of the front cover has a pop singer on it, she is looking very happy with a big smile on her face attracting people to buy the magazine.
A shot type used is a medium-long shot on the boy band one direction, I think this has been used because it creates quite a big image which looks good on the page, also you can get a good view on the boys. A medium close up has been used on the girl singing, this is pretty close on her face showing her facial expressions as she is singing, i think this has been used because you can feel more involved with the singer and the music if you can tell how she is feeling by her facial expressions.
