Research & Planning: Final Drafts

These are my new drafts for my front cover, contents page and the double page spread. I have took the advice from my audience videos to change them to make them better and more suitable.

I did not need to change anything about my front cover, my audience video's said that it was good and you could tell what the genre was just by looking at it which is what I am going for.

On my contents page my audience video's told me that I needed to spread the images around a bit more, so here I have used the empty space and filled it with the images. I agree now that this looks a lot better.

For my double page spread, my audience video's told me that the one image is okay because it is big and that I do not want to over fill the page, because the double page spread is all about the information and the text.

Research & Planning: Audience interview feedback

By doing these video's I found out that the colours I have chosen for my pop magazine are appropriate and suitable for the genre. I don't need to add any more images to the double page spread because one big image is enough. On the contents page the images could be more spread out. Also the layout is clear and not messy so this doesn't need changing. For the artist on my double page spread I am just going to make up a famous female pop singer and basically compare her to a real pop singer such as Jessie J.

Research & Planning: costume, props list, equipment & software list

To create my magazine I will need costumes and props.
I am going to use a female solo artist as the main image of my front cover. I decided on this from the feed back from my questionnaire. The girl will be around the age of 16. I will just use a girl from my media class that doesn't mind having there photo taken. I will want her to wear a woolly jumper with some leggins. If she cannot provide them I will bring them in for the photo. I will also bring in a necklace and some dangle earrings that I will want her to wear. I am going to try and make her look as pop as possible. It does not matter wear I take this photo because the background will be edited out.
I am going to take a picture of my two dogs for the front cover as two smaller images. This can create a cover line about animals or pets. For one of the other smaller images I am going to take an picture of another friend from media and pretend they are a celebrity and make a cover line about news on the celebrity.

  • Wooly jumper
  • Leggins
  • Necklace
  • Dangle earrings
  • My two dogs
  • Two girls
To create my magazine I am going to:

  • use Photoshop and indesign
  • use a digital camera to take the images
  • Iphoto

Research & Planning: Results from my Questionnaire

From the results above i have decided to use a female solo artist for the main image of my front cover.
For the other questions they were written answers. Most of the results said that they would like to see information about celebrities, interviews and reviews. They also said that calling my pop magazine Pop World is a good idea because it is appropriate for the type of genre.

Research & Planning: Double page spread analysis

This is a double page spread from a pop magazine called top of the pops.
The colour pink has been used a lot on this double page spread, from this I can tell that the target audience has to be females because the colour pink has been labelled to females also it catches the female eye very easily. I think that this is aimed for females that are teenagers, I have chosen teenagers because of the childish stuff it is saying for example the masthead 'CRAZY ABOUT Bieber's body!'. Justin Bieber in this image is around the age of 14, the person who has created the magazine will not want females over this age looking at a young boys body they will want females the same age. Also just by looking at the page you can tell it is aimed at teenage girls.
The layout of this page is different. There is a big main image coming over the two pages, there is then three smaller images around the two pages filling in gaps and making it not look all like text. The text is then on either side of the main image, down the left side and down the right side. It is set out very neat and clear the way it has been put into boxes with titles above the box saying what information the box is containing. The masthead is usually across the middle of the top of the page, but on this double page it is across the top of the left page. This is still effective because it stands out because of the pink and black on the white background.
A medium-long has been used on the main image that crosses both pages of the double page spread. I think this has been used to show you that these two pages are going to be about the pop singer Justin Bieber. The way the title is 'CRAZY ABOUT Biebers body!' and then there is this big main image of him work together to let the audience know what it is about. Another medium-long has been used on Justin with his top of showing his body which also works well with the masthead, every thing on this double page spread has a purpose and a meaning and it all fits together and connects.
The introduction to the two pages is mostly simple said in the title, and you can tell as soon as you look at the page what it is going to be about. But then there is a little bit of text which is one sentence simply saying how the double page spread is going to say things about Justin's body and features. I think this is needed so if the viewer wants to know what the page is about to see if they would like to read on they can read a little introduction, but this should not give away everything the page contains.

Research & Planning: Contents page Analysis

This image is the contents page of a pop magazine called top of the pops.
I think this because of the use of pink, pink is a very female colour and it is used quite a lot on this page. All of the numbers of the pages are in pink and then also the background of the masthead is pink, because this colour is on a white background it really stands out, it is eye catching so I think this will attract the eye of mostly females. I think the age is for teenagers. I think this because of the things that are said to be in the magazine, it comes across slightly childish something that teenage girls would enjoy. So I believe that the target audience for this magazine contents page is female teenagers.
The layout of this page is simple, the way you would expect. The masthead is at the top, the main information in the middle, and one main image, with other images. A medium sized one in the bottom right corner and a couple of smaller images plotted around the page filling gaps and also to make it look more interesting and not like it is all text.
I think the main image which is of a young boy band comes across bubbly and positive because of the way they are smiling with their arms around each other looking like they are having a good time. This works with the meaning of pop music, pop is supposed to be bubbly and to make people sing along and be cheerful. The small image of the front cover has a pop singer on it, she is looking very happy with a big smile on her face attracting people to buy the magazine.
A shot type used is a medium-long shot on the boy band one direction, I think this has been used because it creates quite a big image which looks good on the page, also you can get a good view on the boys. A medium close up has been used on the girl singing, this is pretty close on her face showing her facial expressions as she is singing, i think this has been used because you can feel more involved with the singer and the music if you can tell how she is feeling by her facial expressions.

Research & Planning: Font designs for Magazine masthead

These are three different Masthead designs for my music magazine. I made these in Photoshop, I have chose to do these fonts because I believe that they work well with Pop music. The colours also work well because they are bright and funky like Pop music tends to be.

Research & Planning: Magazine review two

When you look at this magazine cover the first thing you see is the name of the magazine, this is because it is in a speech bubble that has a thick black outline this is eye catching so it catches your attention straight away. Then there is an  image of a famous female pop singer JessieJ on the right hand side of the cover. I believe that the image of JessieJ has been used to represent beauty and confidence.
A lot of things on the cover page tell us that this magazine is aimed for mainly females. Such as the usage of the colour pink also the story lines. For example 'look like little mix' this seems like the story line that would attract an audience of females. I think this because males would not want to know how to look like little mix and then why would males want to know gossip about Harry Styles. Also there is line saying about ten posters that are in the magazine, they're little images of the posters inside and they are all of males, males would not want these females would. So I believe that the audience for this magazine are female teenagers.
This magazine cover has stuck to three colours, pink, white and black. The background is white with the pink and black on top of it, this is good because everything stands out and will be clear to read. Also pink and black are two colours that work very well together.
For this magazine the Masthead is different usually it is across the top, here is is on the left hand side in a speech bubble this is unique and interesting. Instead of the image being central with the cover lines around it, the image is on the right hand side like i have already stated, with the story lines and other images on the left next to it.

Research & Planning: Magazine review one

When you look at this magazine cover the first thing you see is the central image of a famous female pop singer Tulisa. I believe that the image of Tulisa is being represented as powerful and confident. The way her arms are above her head, her beautiful smile and her sparkly dress makes her look sexy, this is probably why she is the first thing you see and why the person who has made the magazine has made this happen.
A lot of things on the cover page tell us that this magazine is aimed for mainly females. Such as the usage of the colour pink also the story lines. For example 'make him notice you' 'look like Selena and Cher' 'omg JLS confess everything!' these all seem like the story lines that would attract and audience of females. I think this because males would not want to know how to make 'him' notice you, males would not want to look like Selena and Cher and then why would males want to know gossip about JLS. So I believe that the audience for this magazine are female teenagers.
This magazine cover has stuck to three colours, pink, white and dark blue. The background is white with the pink and blue on top of it, this is good because then everything will stand out and will be clear to read. Also pink and blue are very different colours so you can see where items have been separated. Everything is clear and easy to read.
Like any other typical magazine the Masthead it going along the top of the magazine in bold text. Then there is the central image like i have already stated, then around the central image are story lines, this is just the way people imagine the cover of a magazine.

Research & Planning: Collage

Here i have created a collage using a pop magazine to cut images out of. I have annotated the collage saying why the specific images and text has been chosen to be used on my collage.
